Why PilCoo Exists

Every foundation has a founding document. Ours has two names: Pilki and Cookie.
Pilki was a Dalmatian. Cookie was an indie. They were family — the most consistent presence in our founders' lives — and together they inspired more than the name of this foundation. The love, loyalty and care they brought into a home became part of a larger belief: that compassion deserves to be carried forward.
It would be easy to make this a sad story, and it isn't one. This is not about loss. It is about what two ordinary dogs demonstrated, day after day, without any effort at all: what it looks like to show up without conditions.
What two dogs teach you
A dog does not care about your bad day, your status, your mood or your usefulness. The greeting at the door is the same on your best evening and your worst. That consistency is easy to overlook when you live inside it — and impossible to forget once you've noticed what it actually is: loyalty as a daily practice, not a feeling.
Living with that kind of presence changes how you move through the world. You start noticing the street dog who sleeps outside the same shop every night. The colleague who insists they're fine a little too quickly. The lane everyone complains about and no one cleans. Care, once practised in small daily doses, starts to generalise.
Compassion is not a feeling. It is a practice — showing up, consistently, without conditions.
Growing beyond the gate
For a while, that practice stayed where it began — with animals. But the same questions kept appearing elsewhere. The people who carry the most are often the last to be asked how they're doing. The same care we give animals and one another, we owe to the world that holds us all. The philosophy didn't change; its radius did.
That is why The PilCoo Foundation stands on three equal pillars — animals, people and nature — rather than one. They are not three separate charities sharing a logo. They are one belief, practised in three directions.
What PilCoo is, and isn't
PilCoo is not a large institution, and it doesn't aspire to behave like one. It exists to connect people who want to help with genuine causes, communities and organisations where that help can create meaningful change — as a connector, a facilitator and a catalyst, not the owner of every solution.
We are at the beginning of that work, and we'd rather build it slowly and honestly than loudly. The name keeps us oriented: everything we build is, in the end, an attempt to be a little more like them.
